Bulldog News Week of 5.15.2017

Our first Compassion Project Presentations are in the bag! This has been a great week of having students communicate and share the great things they’ve done to change a life change their community or change the world. Below are some pictures and video of presentations we’ve captured this week:

We will be building up on our successes and opportunities for improvement to have an even better showcase next year.

WRMS is a Summer School Site This year, RSS will have summer school at four of its middle school sites and West Rowan Middle is one of those sites!

Yes..it’s that time of year again…EOG testing is on the horizon, Spring Fever is at its peak, and what “worked” last month, last week, or even yesterday is not considered engaging per student perspective. What about dusting off the DE Techbook and using an SOS strategy?

Simply log into Discovery Education, type SOS in the search bar and you have access to the strategies pictured above and many more. Not sure if the strategy is applicable to your content? No worries, tap on the name and access a PDF detailing  resources needed, set up, and implementation. Are you a visual and/or auditory learner? Videos are available narrated by DEN educators. Teachers give a brief bio, the purpose of the strategy, and how to successfully implement in your classroom.

Do you remember LDC (Literacy Design Collaborative)? We dipped our toe into the pool at the beginning of April during a whole group PD session, some in a smaller setting in an ISD format, and cohort 2 teachers have planned and implemented modules and mini-tasks. LDC skill clusters:

  1. Preparing for the Task
  2. Reading Process
  3. Transition to Writing
  4. Writing Process

Discovery Ed SOS strategies are easily aligned with the LDC literacy framework, as stand alone mini-tasks or mini-tasks within a module. Just another example of how many of the RSS initiatives and internet based programs available to educators and students integrate seamlessly or “play well with each other”:

  • Discovery Education
  • Achieve 3000
  • Literacy Design Collaborative
  • Problem Based Learning

Compassion Projects:  Wow, I hope you all got to see some of the amazing projects that were presented last week.  We hope all students got to see some great ones and will be inspired to raise the bar.
